Labor Day visitation to Las Vegas expected to rise

More visitors are expected to travel to southern Nevada this Labor Day weekend, but they might spend less than last year, according to local tourism officials.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is projecting 290,000 visitors during the holiday weekend, up 2.8 percent compared with the 282,000 tourists who visited last year.

Coming off her recent arrest for cocaine possession, Paris Hilton has now been officially banned from entering two of the Wynn resorts on the Vegas strip.

Only Las Vegas worse for home prices: Study

Seventeen of the largest 20 U.S. metro markets showed an increase in home prices in June over May, but Seattle wasn’t one of them.
Seattle joined Phoenix with no change in home prices during the latest monthly report. Las Vegas was down 0.6 percent, and those are the only three markets that didn’t show an increase in home prices, according to the latest Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices report.
Las Vegas police shooting injures man

A Las Vegas police officer shooting has left a man critically wounded.
Police Capt. Patrick Neville says the shooting occurred after officers responded to a trouble call at a Las Vegas office building Wednesday night.
He says there was a confrontation between an officer and a man standing by a pickup truck that prompted the officer to fire five shots at the man.

A year ago, everyone was bearish on casino stocks. Amid global economic uncertainty, no one was ready to place their bets on the lavish, decadent palaces of excess – casinos. Las Vegas Sands, which owns the Venetian, the Palazzo and Sands casino hotels, had experienced declining margins and crumbling revenue for the better part of the previous two years.
At the end of July, however, it announced a massive surprise of earnings of 1.59 billion, or 17 cents per share, 50.7% higher than the Street consensus of 8 cents due to massive profits from its Macau and Sinagpore casinos.
Las Vegas casino fined over gambler’s card table dance

A Las Vegas casino is to pay a $250,000 (£162,127) fine for allowing a gambler to dance on a card table during a game.
Caesars Palace settled with Nevada regulators who accused the casino of failing to protect the game and its patrons, according to documents.
Cosmopolitan in Vegas partners with Marriott Int’l

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hotel-casino is joining forces with Marriott International Inc., giving Marriott loyalists an option to stay on the Las Vegas Strip and the Cosmopolitan a head start on attracting customers.
The under-construction resort on Wednesday said it has sealed a distribution agreement with Marriott to be part of its Autograph Collection, a set of independent upscale hotels the franchiser launched last year.
Miss Universe 2010 crowned in Las Vegas

Jimena Navarrete of Mexico has been crowned Miss Universe 2010.
The 22-year-old from Guadalajara scooped the title over 82 other contestants at the ceremony in Las Vegas last night, reports The AP.
“I imagine that they’re all going crazy in Mexico right now. I’m extremely proud and I’m sure they’re very proud, too,” she said.
World’s beauties vie for Miss Universe crown in Las Vegas

More than 80 of the world’s most beautiful women were vying Monday for the title of Miss Universe in a pageant taking place in Las Vegas.
The final of the contest, which is expected to attract over 600 million viewers around the world, will be broadcast from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Monday night in an event hosted by NBC entertainment anchor Natalie Morales and rocker Bret Michaels.
